ABOUT US

The Funeral Planner is a hub for creative ideas and unique ways to remember your loved ones.

It’s a place that honours traditions rooted in history for mourning the dead, whilst breathing personality into every facet of the memorial and beyond.

In a time when people’s beliefs, personality and quirks are not just accepted, but celebrated; we have the tools to remember loved ones in a way that truly speaks to their soul.

Our Story

I decided to launch The Funeral Planner following the sudden loss of my mum in 2019. Although I'd attended the funerals of family and friends growing up, nothing could have prepared me for the loss of someone I love so much. Coming to terms with her passing wasn't easy and I had no idea how I was going to be able to organise everything for her funeral. All I knew was, as the last thing I ever did for Mum, it needed to be perfect.

When it came to finding things for the funeral and wake, even though there was a surplus of options available, the only things I found seemed too basic and lacked an individuality reflective of Mum. Since I couldn’t find what I needed, I decided that anything I could create myself, I would; and stayed up most nights just so I could finish them.

Then the day of the funeral came around. A perfectionist at heart, I was looking at all the things I wish I could have spent more time on so that they looked perfect; but unfortunately, time isn’t a luxury you have when organising a funeral. Fast forward a few hours, and it was eventually time for people to leave Mum’s wake. Knowing that you’d managed to make it through one of the most difficult days of your life was one thing, but as people were leaving there was a resounding comment; “That could have only been for Carole.” After everyone had left, I realised; the memorial was in fact perfect. And it was perfect because it was perfect for Mum.

…And it got me thinking, what if there’s other people out there who are struggling to find exactly what they're looking for to remember their loved one in time?

So I decided to launch The Funeral Planner; to help make people's unique vision of a memorial for their loved one a reality.

THE PERSON BEHIND THE NAME

Sara Froud

Hi I'm Sara, the founder of The Funeral Planner.  I'm a dreamer, a deep thinker, and someone who loves finding beauty in the most unexpected places.

My background is in media and marketing; with over 10 years' experience in these areas and a Batchelor of Arts Degree in Creative Advertising Strategy. My passions have always been Design and Psychology, and I believe the two go hand-in hand.

Growing up, I used to love taking detours through graveyards (I was always a bit of an odd duck as a kid!) – I appreciated how peaceful they were and used to make up what I now know to be sort of a pen portrait of the people behind the name on their headstones. I always felt they'd like the idea of someone thinking about them all these years later; who they were, what they were like and what life was like for them.

When I'm not working on new creative ideas, I love reading about astronomy and astrophysics. I think there's something incredibly humbling knowing we're looking into the past, and so beautiful when you realise we're all made from stardust.
